    My Approach to Counseling

We all have times where we feel overwhelmed, alone, dissatisfied, stuck, or worried. It helps to have somewhere to turn, where we can freely share our feelings and experiences. Often, just processing concerns with a caring, objective listener increases clarity and leads to new insights.

I love helping people navigate challenges and find healing. As a counselor, I offer you undivided attention and nonjudgement. You’ll find that I’m warm, approachable, and easy to talk to. I will listen with patience and compassion, using curiosity and thoughtful questions to examine your concerns. We will collaborate to increase your self-awareness, practice new skills and relational patterns, and identify an empowering path forward.

In our work together I will honor your wholeness and recognize your inherent strengths. This means that—while I will attend to the challenges you describe in session—I will also recognize your knowledge, skills, attitudes, wisdom, capabilities, community, and resiliency. You are so much more than your current hardship!

    My Education & Experience

I’m a Professional Counselor Associate with a master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Portland State University. My dual track graduate program included studies in both clinical mental health counseling and rehabilitation (chronic illness and disability-focused) counseling. I also studied trauma-informed care and expressive arts therapy.

During my counseling practicum, I worked at the Portland State University Community Counseling Clinic, providing weekly counseling services to clients with general mental health concerns, like low mood, anxiety, panic attacks, suicidal ideation, relational conflict, changes in relationship status, trauma, career dissatisfaction, immigration and cultural adjustment, identity issues, substance use, and more.

I completed my counseling internship at Oregon Vocational

Rehabilitation Services, where I provided counseling and guidance to individuals with a variety of marginalized identities and physical, sensory, cognitive, and emotional disabilities. I have experience serving clients with learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, intellectual disability, autism, neurological and muscular conditions, visual impairment, and personality disorders.

As a counselor I utilize a person-centered counseling approach within an integrated framework, drawing from humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, feminist, and cognitive behavioral theories. I believe that all human beings have an innate capacity for growth and wellness. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where your growth will naturally unfold.
